Olson and DellaPelle Quoted in Record Article Regarding Property Tax Reductions Resulting From Hurricane Sandy
McKirdy & Riskin’s Tom Olson and Anthony Della Pelle were recently quoted in Kevin DeMarrais’ article in the Record , which explains that owners of real estate which was materially damaged by Hurricane Sandy may be entitled to a reduction in their property tax assessments for 2013. In order to qualify for the reduction, owners are required to notify the municipal Tax Assessor in writing on or before January 10, 2013 of any material depreciation to their property. McKirdy & Riskin’s Thomas Olson was recently interviewed and quoted in an article by The Record’s Kevin DeMarrais concerning real estate tax appeals. The article provides DeMarrais’ effort to appeal the real property tax assessment on his home in Bergen County. As indicated by both DeMarrais and Olson, the tax appeal process can be complex and time consuming, and many property owners who file appeals on their own unfortunately find themselves in a position where their appeals may be dismissed if they are not familiar and in compliance with the procedural rules which apply. Harry Riskin and Anthony Della Pelle were recognized as two of New Jersey’s “Top Rated Lawyers” in the field of Real Estate Law for 2012 as published in the Star-Ledger’s Inside Jersey Magazine in August, 2012. The list of Top Rated Lawyers was created by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell, based upon that company’s Peer Review Ratings which identify lawyers who have been rated by their peers to be AV Preeminent, the highest Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating available.
MOUNT OLIVE TWP. – Mayor Robert Greenbaum said the township has no other choice but to use its power of eminent domain to buy a deteriorating, former nursing home in Budd Lake and convert it into housing for low- and moderate-income families. The Cobblestone Health Care Facility on Stonewald Court has been empty since it was closed in 2008 as a result of an agreement with the state. On April 24, 2012, he served as a moderator at the Urban Land Institute’s conference “The Fort Monmouth Story: Opportunities for Growth and Redevelopment”, which was held on the Fort Monmouth Property. On April 26th, he led a panel at the 76th Annual Princeton Conference of the Metro New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute entitled “Public Utilities – the Next Great Wave of Takings“

McKirdy & Riskin’s Anthony DellaPelle was recently interviewed and quoted by the Star-Ledger’s MaryAnn Spoto in her article regarding an appellate court’s decision to uphold a $375,000 jury award for a Harvey Cedars couple who claimed that a beach replenishment project reduced the value of their oceanfront home, because it ruined their ocean view. The case was the latest of beach replenishment cases along the Jersey shore, where municipalities have been using federal funds to rebuild beaches and sand dunes by pumping sand onto the shore to push back against the tide.
